WESTMORLAND – The Westmorland Community Food Pantry welcomed its fifth anniversary with a community enhancement fair on Tuesday evening, November 21st, celebrating a half-decade of dedicated service to assisting those in need of food within the local community.
“The Westmorland Food Pantry clients are our main focus, we want them to have a good meal for their Thanksgiving so they’re invited, but the whole community is welcomed to come out and participate,” said Cari Augusta, CEO of the Westmorland Community Food Pantry.
The event took place from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M outside the Community Presbyterian Church located at 285 E Third Street in Westmorland. Set up along C Street were resource booths from local agencies providing valuable information on services available to clients and residents. Agencies such as Imperial County Behavioral Health, Imperial County Public Health, the Imperial County Positive Engagement Team (P.E.T.), the Imperial Valley Food Bank, and the Sure Helpline Crisis Center were in attendance, showcasing their commitment to community wellbeing.
“This event is an opportunity for the entire community to come together, enjoy music, and access additional resources from local agencies,” said Augusta. “We are also excited about our food distribution happening shortly.”
Food pantry clients were able to learn about resources and take in the event before picking up their food and commodities from the pantry’s food distribution.
KXO Radio provided music and held a live broadcast during the event. Also adding to the festivities was a taco cart, which provided free tacos to community members, ensuring everyone had a chance to enjoy a warm and delicious meal.
The pantry also acknowledged the generous contributions of Sunterra Produce/Project Food Box for the donation of the produce boxes, Five Crowns Marketing for melons, and Doc’s Organics for sweet limes, all of which were included in the evenings food distribution.
“Thank you to our community for coming out to celebrate our fifth anniversary of the Westmorland Community Food Pantry,” Agusta said. “We look forward to our next five years!”
